THE UNWAVERING LOVE FOR THE SEA

My first encounter with Russell Ord felt like a plunge into the unknown. Assigned to cover an event in Margaret River for Tracks magazine, I found myself on the doorstep of this enigmatic photographer, known for his daredevil antics, insatiable appetite for danger and straight-shooting demeanour. He’d made a name for himself, swimming and shooting at some of the heaviest and sharkiest waves on the planet and saving homes battling the worst bushfires in his state’s history. Against the backdrop of Margaret River’s legendary waves, with tales of back-breaking swells and lurking sharks fresh in my mind, I braced for what lay ahead.
