ABOUT: Our life path can be viewed as a labyrinth guiding us to more profound meaning and fulfilment. Walking a labyrinth takes us through numerous twists and turns that symbolize the ebb and flow of life. Like the design of a maze, what looks like an end point in life can also be a beginning point. The feeling I get when I look at this image with spiderweb-like textures across the ocean's surface. My goal when hiring the helicopter was to capture textures of the sea in large format, what it's like from above in extreme detail, a bird's eye view. I have done numerous flights shooting from above and learned a few lessons along the way:
1: Establish good communication and game plan with the pilot. The pilot cannot see what you see, and it's great to give them an idea of the images you are trying to capture; this saves time when in the air.
2: Wear warm clothes and remove the helicopter doors if possible; nothing worse than trying to shoot through glass or small windows and make sure nothing is loose that can blow out - this includes lens hoods.
